| Men's Tights without Feet - Leggings |
|
Since about 1972, natural fibers such as wool or cotton were increasingly used in the production of men's tights. On the one hand, this was due to the skyrocketing prices of synthetic yarns as an aftermath of the oil crisis, and on the other, because 100% synthetic stockings or tights caused hygienic problems such as extreme perspiration, which could lead to athlete's foot and other fungal diseases. This is one of the reasons leading to the invention of adventuresome yarns such as Hygitex and Agent R 52 in the second half of the 1960's. These yarns caused another boom in the production of men's leggings, which could be worn with boil-proof socks. The advantages of leggings were touted in advertising campaigns - the ability to combine them with socks or even just the slogan "so mom only has to wash the socks during the skiing vacation." |
