In the first Special Exhibit of the virtual German Hosiery Museum, we will show original children's clothing from the 16th century until the 1970's on 40 historical children's figurines. Complete costumes or individual exhibits illustrate the development of children's fashion. For each figurine, there is an information plate attached which describes the displayed clothing and legwear. Selected objects in 42 additional display cases illustrate the topic "Children - Fashion - Hosiery" in detail. The German Hosiery Museum has access to a large selection of catalogs from the most important German mail-order businesses. Select examples from these catalogs from the time between 1900 and 2000 document how children's clothing and children's legwear has changed throughout the years and offer the viewer a "Journey to the Past". Historical children's photographs from between 1865 and 1920 supplement the graphical material on the clothing worn. With this exhibit, we hope to offer an interesting overview on the transformation of children's clothing and the legwear pertaining to it from 1900 to 2000. The exhibit, shown here "virtually", actually exists and was shown at several locations in 2002. We will publish information on this website pertaining to this and other exhibits as dates and locations become available. |
