It is not an easy feat to pick out a representative selection of items for the German Hosiery Museum from a collection comprising thousands of objects from the areas technology, legwear, advertising and fashion.

Currently, there is only limited access to the majority of the inventory. At the time, our depositories are in five different locations in Germany and work is still under way. The first step in building up the virtual museum is to present an overview of the topics we have planned and will offer in the future.

The start-up phase of the virtual museum comprises narratives about the history of engineering and production technology, yarns and fibers required for the manufacture of hosiery as well as information on the influences of fashion on the development of legwear from the first steps until the 19th century.

The virtual German Hosiery Museum is an ongoing project and will be updated according to the progress of our research.
